Magneling with corona photos
I already wrote an article about the juggling with corona related figures. In this blog I want to talk about the magic with photos. A message, whether on the Internet or in the newspaper, becomes a lot more credible by posting pictures. We read and have “the evidence” immediately in mind. In the first place, you may wonder whether the picture is part of the described situation. Nowadays you can check that on the internet and it turns out that photo and article have nothing to do with each other.
After more travel in Romania, a photo appeared on the Internet of crowded trains in which no one kept the distance or wore masks. The latter raised questions directly to me because even though not everyone adheres to the rules here too, you can see a lot of people wearing masks on the streets, where this is not mandatory. On the train, it's even mandatory. As it turned out, the picture was already years old and taken on a warm day off when they went massively towards the beach.
In recent days, numerous photographs appear illustrating articles about the mass demonstrations in different cities. Although the chance of getting infected in the open air is less and less, it makes many people anxious when they see large groups of people standing so close to each other. Although the pictures I have seen so far have all been taken during these demonstrations, something strange is going on. They don't all show the same image. On one photo they keep a good distance while on the other they are practically on each other's lips. Of course, the time at which the photo was taken can make a lot of difference, but there is something else going on.
It makes a huge difference from which point of view and with which lens a photo was taken. The article below clearly explains how a photographer can achieve different effects by adjusting his point of view and lens. The accompanying photos speak volumes. It turns out to be very simple with photos both to prove that for example the people were far too close to each other and that they were neatly located 1.5 meters away. Of course, a photographer will try to capture what he was commissioned and an editorial board will also choose the photo that underlines the subject most. But do not think that every picture also gives an honest picture, and most importantly, do not be frightened unnecessarily.
