Pan-American families lose homes due to capiu river overflow



As a result of the heavy rains, the lack of channeling and maintenance of drains together with the overflows of rivers and pipes in the La Florida sector, Nueva Bolivia parish, Tulio Febres Cordero municipality of the state of Mérida, lower part, in the middle of the Pan-American region put the homes of the inhabitants of the area at risk.

The fact is that, the rainfall recorded in previous days caused the Capiu River to overflow, taking with it a large part of the land belonging to the houses and their belongings. A situation that leaves families in that area very affected in a worrying and alarming degree of vulnerability.

Galdys González, a neighbor of the sector for approximately 50 years, and Aurora Torres, are elderly women belonging to two of the families that are currently seriously affected by this problem. In this regard, and given the situation they suffer, they assure that the government entities ordered them to vacate their homes immediately, however they confess that they have nowhere to go and take refuge.

Both families have lost all their furniture, beds, mattresses, clothes and appliances and are at risk of losing their lives in the face of the coming rains. The area where they have lived practically all their lives could disappear at any time, so serious is the situation that the mayor's office of the entity declared the area of high risk.
