WHO WAS CAPTAIN CHICO IN AMERICA A STRENUOUS SPANISH CAPTAIN BECAME INDIGENOUS AND ENVIRONMENTALIST
Miguel Ortega Moran y García was born somewhere in Castile, Spain in 1790. From a very young age he enrolled in the spanish navy. He always attracted attention because of his short stature (1.55 meters) but his dedication and bravery throughout his years as a sailor earned him respect and brought him to the rank of second captain of the Frigate San Carlos, the famous ship of the Spanish Squadra that participated in the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo in 1823, episode where seals the independence from Venezuela. In this naval contest the San Carlos Fragata was destroyed and sunk and Miguel Ortega Moran y García, seriously injured, in a superhuman effort, swims and reaches the shore of a thick mangrove forest near what is today the town of Santa Rosa de Agua in the city of Maracaibo, in the west of the country. Aboriginal people in the area named Añu, find it and cure it. There he meets India's Aniin.
During his convalescence, Captain Ortega reflects on what his life has been like in the Americas. Even as a spanish defeated in battle, he recognizes and admires the cause of Simon Bolivar and the Venezuelans. He also decides not to return to Spain and decides to make a family with Aniin and join the Añu indigenous community.
They say that I helped them improve their navigation techniques, fishing methods and defend themselves against aggressors or invaders who frequented that region.
Many seek fortune dedicated to piracy and slavers fell under the edge of their sword, others with more luck fled desparedness for the bravure and bravery of Captain Ortega and his very well-trained battalion of warriors Añu.
The extensive mangrove forests captivated him and he was a great defender of that tropical paradise.
As an empirical naturist, I carry out an extensive characterization in order to classify the flora and fauna of these coastal forests through charcoal drawings.
In honor of his presence and the many positive things that achieved the well-being of that community, part of the town of Santa Rosa de Agua call him Capitán Chico. By the way, everyone in that town is called Ortega or Moran or García.
