DIGITAL CONTACT

For me, the digital world is very common, it belongs to my life, it belongs to me every day.
I'm even a little addicted, and I'm probably not the only one who's allowed to say this.

We all run into it sometimes,
But you know...
without the Internet, you can't actually go anymore.

Anyway, today's not about me.
No, today it's about a man of 83 years, and yes, the digital world made him happy.

Sit down for it, this story will also touch your heart.
How wonderful it is to make a human being a little bit happy.

Digital contact, well today it's gonna happen...
Today for the first time I put a video contact for a resident and I wish,
that it can color his day positively.

His daughter's birthday is and unfortunately, because of the Corona there is no personal contact for the time being.
The courage has fallen considerably in the shoes of a large number of residents.

Anyway, we've been allowed to notice by now,
that there are quite resources to strengthen our elders a little bit.

I had contact with his daughter yesterday to ask if I could do this.
PLEASE NOTE... this is about a pretty large piece of private.
I was already talking about this with a colleague, she also had mixed feelings and shared this idea with me.

You come “directly” to the people's home and see, for example, personal items.
The whole word privacy policy seems completely off the track in these situations.

We are professionals and have absolute confidence in our own walking,
but a bit of vulnerability opens up due to this' new 'digital act.

We speak courage to each other and the balance is made quickly.
We look at the importance of our residents,
That's something that makes us happy ourselves.

Okay, I've ended up in Mr. Charles's room by now..
He's still in bed and he's got a sandwich in his hand.

An image for brothers and sisters quite common,
but for me a little awkward... I don't see this every day.
Karel greets me very enthusiastically and shows a beautiful smile.

He's a sweet man, has been through a lot, but what do you want with his 83 years? .
You have to listen intensely and give time to an older person, then you will notice this by yourself.

I stray...
He swallows his last bite of bread almost without chewing.
“Come on with that thing, let's get started.”

I heard from a nurse this morning,
that he spoke last night about my planned coming.

He was really looking forward to it; how nice that I can give such a small piece of added value to this man.
I'm not lying to you. According to the nurse, he started to live up.

Well, the moment was finally there,
and this man becomes a digital touch for the first time in his life.

The dial-in sound of Skype speaks surprisingly to Charlemagne's hearing,
his eyes are starting to shine even more.
His daughter appears in the picture and I will do my best to translate this moment.

We agreed to sing “Long Will She Live” together,
But his mouth shut, and I heard he had to restrain his tears.

Yes, seeing his daughter was predicted, but apparently still unexpected.
It had put a big lump in his throat.

Like that last bite of bread, I saw it in a hurry and full of surrender swallowing
and the feeling of underestimating ripens my thoughts.
I gave Charles a wink and we regathered our powers.

♪♪ Long will she live, long will she live... ♪♪
Charlemagne and I sang out full chest haha, it was a wonderful moment.
And his daughter was so grateful and, after a heartfelt conversation, uttered the words:
“Thanks, Dad, you've spoiled me.”
