You read it more and more recently, and also in the hospitality industry,we notice that the demand for vegetarian and vegan food is increasing. Beef and lamb would also have a huge impact on the environment. I honestly don't believe that much of that, and that's why I started investigating. I have contact with, among other things, the food center and a judge butcher. What did I find out? Is my feeling correct? You can read it below in my new blog!

Before we start to draw conclusions,we will have to look at the basic data we have.Hhe nutrition center claims that for a kilogram of beef costs about 15 000 liters of water! A simple calculation below:

A cow weighs about 500 kilos and then delivers 240 kilos of meat. A cow for the meat is about 500 days old. A cow drinks 100 to 150 litres of water a day (I got this data from the local farmer). 240 times 15 000 is 3 600 000 litres of water in its entire life.

3 600 000 parts by 500 days is thus 7 200 liters per day! But he only drinks 150 liters a day in the most extreme case. Where did the other 7,000 gallons come from?

The extremely high value of water per day,in my opinion, can only have one possible cause and that is the concentrated feed the cows receive. This consists for the most part of soy and that costs quite water. So I went to the local farmer again and asked him how much concentrated feed his cows are getting. He told me that a cow works about 80 kilos of feed a day,of which about 35 kilos of grass and 45 kilos of soya-based concentrates. For a kilo of soya based concentrated feed, about 238 litres of water per kilo of concentrated feed, that is 238 times 45 and that amounts to 10 710 litres of water per day and then the calculation of the food center is correct.
