It's time again; the 3rd Tuesday of September. Below is the literal text of the #troonrede .

Members of the States General,

I will never forget the National Remembrance of May 4, 2020. It was unreal and very realistic at the same time: that almost empty Dam, the silence even more deafening than usual, and the realization that the celebration of 75 years of freedom had necessarily become a subdued character. The coronavirus suddenly changed everything this spring. This other than the other Prince's Day at a distance of one and a half meters, not in the Ridderzaal, and with fewer people, traditions and exuberant red-white-blue, makes that tangible.

My admiration and gratitude go to all those who, in care and elsewhere in society, did everything possible to cope with the coronacrisis. Nurses and cleaners, boas and defense personnel, supermarket workers and people in public transport. I would also like to express my support and condolences to those who have been affected by corona or who must miss a loved one. But also for those who do not do that, the impact is enormous. Corona's hitting all of us. From Terschelling to Aruba. Young and old. People with disabilities often even harder than others. Corona hits us in school and work. In the absence of a touch. And above all: in our sense of security and trust. Because being unable to graduate, a funeral in a very small circle, not being able to visit your husband or wife in the nursing home, as an entrepreneur suddenly lose your life's work, or your job — it's all tremendous. For all those feelings of stress, loneliness and loss, there must be room and recognition. Soon we will express this in solidarity throughout the Kingdom under the heading 'attention to each other'.

Yet a lot of good is happening these months. We value more the land we live in. The fabric of our society has once again proved strong. It remains special how Dutch people are there for each other when the need comes to the man. A special feature was how we managed together in a few months that the biggest restrictions could be lifted. And special is the resilience of entrepreneurs who ran their business in all kinds of creative ways, of teachers who went to accompany their students online, and of parents who suddenly combined work and education at home. In the coronacrisis, the Netherlands has proven to be responsible, united and flexible. Let us keep it up for as long as we need it. And let us derive trust from that for the future.

Because it is precisely in times of sudden shocks that it is important to keep an eye on the long term. This is what we owe to young people, who, in recent months, have had to surrender not only to their lives now, but also to their future prospects. A 94-year-old veteran made a lot of loose with a letter in which he urged the young people of the Netherlands to sustain and show solidarity with his generation. An 18-year-old student wrote back to him how grateful he was for the freedom and all the opportunities with which he and his peers grow up. But he also wrote how much they lack that freedom now, how they see key moments in life pass and how extra uncertain the future feels due to the coronacrisis. This uncertainty exists in terms of training, living and employment. At the same time, there is concern about overarching problems such as climate change, which are no less urgent due to corona. This letter touches the heart of Princsjesdag, because perspective for the future always begins in the here-and-now. That's the mirror that tomorrow's adults hold up to today's adults.

In this sense, the government is making the choice not to cut back during this uncertain period, but rather to invest in job content, good public services, and a stronger economic structure and a cleaner country now and later. These are the pillars of the government's plans for the coming year.

The Dutch economy and public finances are resilient. In recent years, a financial buffer has been built up, and we are now reaping the benefits. This public money bank does not make the health effects of the coronavirus less violent, but made the first direct economic consequences more portable.

Dat is handig zo, ik heb er niets van kunnen zien vandaag!
Ik hoop dat je nog een tegenstander in de pool krijgt!
