Mica Cap (Coprinellus Micaceus)
The Mica cap is a bell shaped mushroom that grows from Spring to Autumn, appearing on stumps and wood debris. Once they mature and begin releasing spores, their caps will appear inky and black. They can be used to make black ink when boiled with cloves. Other names for this species of mushroom include the Glistening inkcap and the Shiny cap. Edibilty: The mica cap is an edible mushroom when cooked. Consuming it raw will cause gastric distress from enzymes in the mushroom that become active shortly after harvesting. The mica cap should be eaten in moderation as it can contain hazardous pollutants from its environment. Habitat: These small, delicate mushrooms can be found in broad-leaf forests, growing on dead roots, decaying wood and tree stumps.
