Are you curious to know which bands were most famous and popular  in the 80s with the letter A in their names? When I say A-ha, you'll probably say "A-ha, I remember that!" And of course ABC, Aerosmith and check out this list of the most famous bands of the 1980s beginning with the letter A in their name. I've also added a little bit of history for each band and you can listen to all the singles per band that they made in the 80s. Enjoy reading and listening!

ABBA

Abba, a pop group from Sweden that consisted of four band members in 1972. Two singers, Agnetha Fältskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and two musicians. Björn Ulvaeus on guitar and vocals and Benny Andersson on piano and vocals. Abba has more than 200 million albums sold to their name, making them the most successful band. Their success came after their participation in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest when they became number 1 with the song Waterloo. They made song after song that became hits both in the 70s and 80s. There was a split in 1982, but after a very long break of years, news came out in 2018 that Abba had recorded new songs again, including the song I Still Have Faith In You, which was originally supposed to be on one of their albums from 1979. So the song had already been sung, but was only released this year with several more songs on the new album Voyage Voyage. Abba will still tour in 2022, but then Abba will stop.




ABC

ABC, an English newwave band from the 1980s. In the 1980s, they scored some hits, such as The Look Of Love, The Night You Murdered Love. There have been quite a few changes in terms of band members. However, Martin Frey has been the lead singer of the band since 1980. In total, they released 12 albums, including the most recent in 2016 titled The Lexion Of Love II. The album struck a chord in England right away, landing in fifth place in the Top 100


AC/DC

This hard rock band from Sydney, Australia was formed in 1973 by two brothers, Angus and Malcolm Young.The band changed members frequently for the 1980s. In 1980, the album Back In Black was released and became the band's best-selling album. In total, more than 200 million albums were sold of which 45 million were from Back In Black. The Back In Black album is the number 2 best-selling album worldwide. Famous songs from the 1980s include Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Hells Bells.




AEROSMITH

In the 1970s ( 1970 ), the American rock band Aerosmith was formed. The band consists of the following band members. Steven Tyler, Brad Whitford, Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton. Steven Tyler was a drummer and saw the band play once and was so impressed with the playing that he soon indicated he wanted to sing. In the 70s they had early success including the famous songs Dream On and Walk This Way. After that the band went through a period of decline, with band members having to rehab from drugs, before releasing the song Walk This Way in 1986 with the rappers group RUN DMC, which became a smash hit. In 1987 a new album was released, Permanent Vacation. This album included well-known songs such as Rag Doll, Dude Looks Like A Lady, Love In An Elevator and Janie's Got A Gun. For the latter song they received a Grammy Award.


A-HA

This pop group is from Norway and was formed in 1982. The songs they made became number 1 hits in several countries. Think of the songs Take On Me with those beautiful cartoon drawings, The Sun Always Shines On Tv and of course The Living Daylights. The name A-ha came about because they listened to ABBA's Knowing Me, Knowing You. In that song you hear the word a-ha and so the name for the band came about. 


AIR SUPPLY

Graham Russell and Russell Hitchhock have formed the duo since 1975, after being in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar together. Air Supply The men are from Australia who made pop rock songs and scored many hits in America especially in the 1980s. Graham Russell is a singer/songwriter and guitarist and Russell Hitckhock is a singer. One of their best known songs is All Out Of Love. They released several albums in the 80s and the song Making Love out of Nothing At All also became a big hit from the album Greatest Hits released in 1983.


THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT

The Alan Parsons Project is a progressive rock band formed in 1975 by Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson. It is a band that always makes music from a certain theme and this is how the so-called concept albums were released. Often instrumental an intro song followed by songs with vocals. The band also alternated many songs with different singers. They always chose a different singer who specifically suited a certain song. They were inspired by Pink Floyd and worked as sound engineers on Pink Floyd's album Dark Side Of The Moon which was also a concept album. The level of The Alan Parsons is high as you can clearly hear the perfection of the musical pieces in each song, not surprising also because Woolfson was a composer and you can definitely hear that in this music.


ALPHAVILLE Alphaville was founded in 1982. This German band mainly plays the music style of synthpop and rock. They scored many hits in the 1980s. Before they chose name Alphaville for their band, the band was called Forever Young, which they later scored a big hit with as well. Other big hits include Big In Japan, Sounds like a melody.


ANIMOTION Animotion is an American band ( Los Angeles ) formed in 1983 by Astrid Plane and Charles Ottavio. They had been in a band together called Red Zone. Animotion's music style was new wave and synthpop. The song Obsession was released in 1984 and became a hit that landed in the top 10. Also in this band there were many changes in the line-up. In 1986 the album Strange Behavior was released and one of the songs I Engineer became a big hit in several countries, including Germany. There it reached place 2 in the charts. Animotion was also involved in many performances of other famous artists and bands, such as Eurythmics, Genesis, INXS, Depeche Mode, among others.
