Most Popular Bands In The 80's

@Muziek

The most popular bands of the 80s with the letter B were a mix of bands with different styles, such as pop, rock, punk, new wave. Bananarama, The Bangles, Blondie all had a bit of a punk/rock feel to them. And what about Bon Jovi also a rock legend who had many hits in the 80s. The pop/new wave style fitted The B-52's and the look of the band was also characteristic with the ladies wearing wigs. But there were more terrific bands like Bee Gees and Bronski Beat.
Have fun listening to this musiclist!

Bananarama, a girl group founded in England in 1980, produced many hits in the 80s. Singers Keren Woodward, Sara Dallin and Siobhan Fahey were first allowed to join as backing singers for Fun Boy's song It Aint' What You Do and that song became such a success in Europe that the girls became famous and even became the most famous girl group in the Guiness Book of Records. We know many of their songs, including Cruel Summer, Venus (a hit by Shocking Blue), More Than Physical, I Heard A Rumour. In the first period they had a punk style which later changed to a pop style.

In 1981, the band The Bangles was formed. Sisters Vicky and Debiie Peterson founded the band and two girls Susanna Hofs and Annette Zilinskas joined them. The band name changed twice. First the band was called The Colors, then The Bangs, but finally became The Bangles. In 1984 they had their breakthrough with the song Manic Monday produced by Prince. It was followed by the single Walk Like an Egyptian, which was also a top hit. In 1988, the single Eternal Flame was released and the relationship between the girls deteriorated, so they stopped working together in 1989.

Three brothers, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb and Barry Gibb, who together formed the Bee Gees, were especially popular in the 70s with the disco style music. Think of Saturday Night Fever in 1977 with hits like Stayin Alive. Characteristic of the Bee Gees' music are the high-pitched voices of the men. They not only made their own music, but also produced music for Barbara Streisand, Dionne Warwick and Diana Ross, among others. In the early years, the Bee Gees became less and less popular and it was quiet around them, only to return in 1987 with the hit You Win Again

An American punk/rock band formed in 1974 with the name Blondie. In 1978, the group broke through with the song Denis and in 1980 the song Call Me became famous. The song was used in the film American Gigolo. And another song was released, Rapture.It was the first white rap song to become a hit. In 1982 the band broke up. From 1984, several remixes were made of well-known songs, such as Call Me, Heart Of Glass, Denis.

The American rock band Bon Jovi was founded in 1983 and is one of the most popular bands of the 80s. The lead singer Jon entered a contest for a radio station with the song Runaway and won the contest and the song was released. Band members were added and in 1984 Bon Jovi was formed and from that moment they became very successful with several songs, such as Living On A Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name from the album Slippery When Wet in 1986.

In 1983, the British pop group Bronski Beat was formed with singer Jimmy Somerville, Steve Bronski playing percussion and keyboard and Larry Steinbachek also playing keyboard and percussion. In 1984, they scored a major number 1 hit Smalltown Boy

The British pop group Bucks Fizz which was formed in 1981 entered the Eurovision Song Contest and won with the song Making Your Mind Up. It became a big number one hit in Europe. Many songs followed in the 80s, some of which also became number 1 hits, including in 1982 when the song The Land of Make Believe was released.

The American band The B-52's is characterised by the wigs that the ladies of the band wear. Their songs are rock style mixed with other musical styles, such as dance and new wave. A well-known song is Love Shack from 1989.
