Experts say listening to music while training can give you better training in a variety of ways. Scientists claim it can increase your stamina, boost your mood, and distract you from any discomfort during your workout.

Training to music

Dr. Robert Herdegen of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked at the effects of 12 men riding a bicycle for ten minutes one day while listening to music. The next day the men had to ride the bike again, but not accompanied by music this time. Dr. Robert Herdegen compared the results of the two days. He notes that on the days when the men did hear music, they cycled as much as 11 percent further than on days without music. The researchers also concluded that the men's levels of effort were lowest when listening to music. Other studies show that listening to music frees up endorphins. These are our natural feel good hormones that improve our mood and give us more motivation to continue exercising longer.
