Do you play a musical instrument? Well, then I guess you've heard about music theory. But is music theory really that important? And how is the best way to learn this?

I myself started playing saxophone at a young age. As a ten-year-old girl, music was something totally elusive to me, a kind of magic. I could read notes, but I didn't understand anything I played. I first learned something about music theory when I had to take a music exam. Before that, I took a number of theory lessons. I loved it right away, because I was able to understand music!

What is music theory?

Wikipedia says:”Music Theory is the doctrine of systematics in music.” A very short description for a complex subject. Music theory is about intervals, scales, chords, harmonies and hearing training. It is the basis for the structure of music. It makes composers know that certain tones sound nicely together.

Why is music theory important?

Knowledge of music theory allows you to understand music, compose songs yourself and play an instrument better. Then you know when you can use a particular chord, you can play beautiful solos and you have more control over your instrument. Music theory ensures that musicians know what they're talking about, that they can understand each other faster. It allows music to be transformed into a universal language that everyone can understand.

A long time ago I really wanted to learn how to play guitar but that went against my mother's plans, I should learn violin. I made it a hell of sounds at home, kept doing that until they were tired of it 🙃😁
But I love hearing the sounds of saxophone, and a cool post that you indicate here for those who can need it and don't know where and how.
Hoi Lida ! Welkom op Yoors. Leuke post. Ga je nog meer posts over muziektheorie schrijven ?
@Henkjan de Krijger Ja, ik denk het wel. Ik ben nu nog aan het rondkijken hoe het allemaal werkt :)
