OVERVIEW

Keywords: Acute Pancreatitis, Bisap Scale, Mortality Risk. Since 1889, acute pancreatitis, has been defined as an inflammatory process of the pancreas, characterized by acute inflammation, up to necrosis of the gland. With regard to its degree of complication, in Venezuela the National Institute of Statistics in 2008; notes that the mortality of severe pancreatitis is 30 to 50%, on the other hand, indicates that it constitutes the number 32 cause of mortality, accounting for 50% of deaths in Venezuela and is currently one of the five causes of morbidity in hospitals. Based on the above, a prospective, field, descriptive and cross-sectional cohort study was conducted, where the BISAP SCALE was used to estimate the risk of mortality of acute pancreatitis in patients admitted to the adult emergency of the Central University Hospital Dr. “Pedro Emilio Carrillo” from the City of Valera, Trujillo State, from May 2009, until July 2010; the universe consisted of 2723 patients corresponding to the annual total of them attending the area of hospitalization of the adult emergency, the sample was non-probabilistic simple at random, from patients with diagnosis Treatment of acute pancreatitis. The following results were obtained: 58.3% de los pacientes con pancreatitis aguda fueron del sexo masculino y el 41,7% correspondieron al sexo femenino. The overall average age of patients with acute pancreatitis in the research was 43.67 years with a standard deviation of 19.98 years. On the other hand, it was found that men and women with acute pancreatitis had an average age of 37.86 y 51.84 años respectivamente; y del total de pacientes con pancreatitis aguda 10 obtuvieron 2 puntos en la Escala de Bisap, indicando esto bajo riesgo de mortalidad.
