It's Sunday evening and I have another update waiting for you about my tree bumblebee. My feisty Bumblebee Queen has been living here in the house since Saturday, April 20, 2024, which means she's been staying here for 10 weeks now.

Nectar roof

Everything is going as usual here, so I don't have much news to share. So let me just tell you a fun fact.

Did you know that some bumblebees bypass flowers by biting a hole in the side of the flower so that they can get directly to the nectar without pollinating the flower? By the way, this behavior is called “nectar robbery”. Of course, they don't have a set of teeth like mammals, but they do have a pair of powerful jaws (mandibles).

They don't just use those jaws to bite flowers. They are also useful in kneading and shaping their nesting material. They use their jaws to manipulate laundry and construct their nest cells. And h Although bumblebees are known for their gentle nature, they can also use their jaws to defend themselves against threats.
