What's the liquid leaking out under my car?

A car that leaks liquid can eventually create a dangerous situation if it is not repaired immediately. This article features the six most common liquid leaks in cars, from the ones that make you stranded somewhere to the ones that are supposed to leak.

Does the liquid come out of my car?

First make sure that the liquid under your car is coming off your car, and it wasn't already there when you parked there. Just take a look under the car, grab a flashlight, and look closely. If the liquid actually comes from your car, we have to look at the colour. The best way to find out is to slide a white piece of cardboard or plywood under the car and drip the liquid onto it. First of all, before you remove the plate, see where it is leaking, to determine where the leak age is. Then see what the color of the leaky liquid is.

1. Oil Spills

Oil is light orange to dark brown depending on how well your car is maintained. If there is an oil leak, chances are that it is right under the engine. On a front wheel driven car, the engine can be front left or right, depending on the transmission. As soon as you are sure that the oil is leaking out of the engine you have to find the hole, maybe you choose to have a mechanic do this. Sometimes they are easy to find, sometimes harder.

2. Coolant or antifreeze leaks

Coolant is a tricky because it occurs in different colors, normally it is green in most cars, but it depends on the manufacturer or seller of the coolant. Honda has blue, Mercedes has bright, Toyota has red and other brands have different colors coolant. Coolant smells and tastes sweet, not that you want to taste it because it's toxic. A coolant leak can occur anywhere, as tubes run everywhere. The most common leak is in the radiator, it sits under the grill at the front of the car. If you suspect it's leaking, you usually smell the sweet smell of candy. Take a quick look in the overflow tank, if it is empty, let the engine cool down completely and look in the radiator. If it's empty, it might be leaking. (Never take the cap off a radiator while the engine is hot, it could blow out hot steam causing burns!)
