My first dog. In 2020 we took our first dog into our house, namely a German Shepherd named Jax. Jax was born on May 21, 2020 and I would like to take you into the wonderful, exciting and loving adventures we experience with Jax. I would also like to take you into the challenges we face.

Puppy Pick Up

You can certainly talk about exciting times before your puppy finally arrives at home. Especially when it comes to your very first puppy. Do we have everything and do everything right? With a little luck you have a puppy nearby, but it can also be that your puppy comes from a little further. Some people even get their dog from abroad. It was not that crazy with us, but we had to drive more than an hour. Before the time was we have already made several visits to Jax. From the moment Jax was 1 week old we regularly drove back and forth to admire our puppy child. We brought stuff for Jax into our house and made our house as good as possible puppyproof in the weeks that we still had to be patient. We couldn't wait until it finally came to it! We looked up a lot of information we could do best at the moment we would pick up Jax. For example, we have read books and deepened ourselves through, of course how else, different YouTube videos.

Two weeks before it finally came, we left a hug in the nest, so that we could finally bring the smell of the nest with us. We have chosen to pick up the puppy during the holidays. We also deliberately looked at a litter during this period, so that there was enough time for the puppy. Especially at the beginning, we thought this was very important.

Our holiday had begun in the meantime and we had to be patient for a few more days. During these days we have made a number of trips with the family. This is going to be a little more difficult to leave together in the near future, and we are well aware of that. After enjoying a few days, the day was there. Time to pick up our shepherd puppy from the nest. Very exciting, but incredibly fun! We had set the alarm early, but with such a nice day ahead it takes no effort to jump out of the bed.
Load family in the car, transport basket, last check up in the house and we could go! Arriving at the address, where we have been more often, I felt a bit nervous anyway. Now it's really going to happen and we both realized and felt that we were about to take on a whole (new) responsibility. A new chapter in our lives. Somehow I felt a bit of a noob and caught myself wondering if the other puppies got just as inexperienced new owners.

We were at the breeder very warmly welcomed in a domestic circle and drank a few cups of coffee along. Meanwhile, from the curiosity of the breeder, a number of questions were asked about where Jax would end up. Get it completely, this breeder wanted nothing more than a good new house for their litter. A little nervous and maybe a little insecure it made me feel. Are we all doing well? Fortunately, I could quickly calm my thoughts and attitude with the counter-thoughts that as a human being you may (and even have to) start somewhere. The breeder had already taken Jax away from the nest and Jax was already snooping around in the kitchen where we were quietly drinking. I can't believe how hard the beast grows. Even bigger than the last time we saw him, and this wasn't even that crazy long ago. We saw that Jax was already out there with slippers and shoes. The breeder wished us success and told us laughing that Jax was very much at the forefront of his development. For example, Jax was a bit ahead of his brothers and sisters and he already started 'to tie shoeles' and to get on with everything and everything. The breeder told me that she gave Jax a nice bath and on departure we got a richly filled goodie bag with it. The time came, the journey back home could begin. Still unaccustomed we aligning Jax and walked out towards the car. Again I caught myself thinking what it would look like and whether the breeder let the puppy go with peace of mind. Come on, regrab yourself and not so insecure. We can handle this, and we're doing fine.

In the car, I kept the basket on my lap and Jax in it. From the videos we have seen that this is a good way, because you can make the dog so calm and that 9/10 times the dog would finally fall asleep. The way back home is still written on my retina. What a hell of a ride and especially for Jax. Jax was totally panicked and didn't calm down. It's not nothing to be taken away from your siblings and then put in a car with strangers. It was a battle to keep Jax in the basket so my partner could drive safely. We finally drove off the highway and at that moment Jax had given up the fight and fell asleep. Unfortunately, this was less than 5 minutes away from home. So the trip to our house was not a great success and we still see the consequences of that. Jax is terribly afraid to get in the car. Arriving home we first let Jax do a pee. We have then entered our house where Jax yourself was allowed to explore the place. The living room of course. Jax is not a frightened puppy and we immediately got the impression that he was very curious about his new living situation. The rest of this day, and the coming days, were about getting used to his new home. #puppy #pup #herder #gsd #duitseherder #germanshepherd #pupophalen #puppyophalen #honden #hond #bench #puppystreken #pupinhuis #herders
