Mycelium Networks

When walking through the forest, we tend to pay most of our attention to the things that are straight ahead or within our eye level, without stopping to consider the marvels that could lie beneath our feet. Below the soil, leaves and moss that cover the forest ground, we are able to find an amazing microscopic network of fungus, interwoven with the roots of the trees. The mushrooms we find in the ground are the fruit of this vast underground network and the mycelium connects with tree roots to create what is called a "mycorrhizal network". The mycorrhizal network connects individual plants together in order to transfer water and minerals between eath other. Saplings that grow in more shady areas are less able to photosynthesize adequately, so for survival they rely on older, taller trees to supply them with sugar and nutrients through the mycorrhizal network. The word "mycelium" is derived from New Latin and Greek origins, meaning "more than one". Without fungi the ecosystem and other plants wouldn't exist. Nutrients are usually not soluble enough for a plants roots to absorb. Nitrogen is a good example of such nutrients, and is often trapped within tough to access proteins. The fungi will metabolize the proteins and transform them into a more soluble nitrate. Groups of complex fungi can form a symbiotic or mutually beneficial relationship with plants which allows the mycorrhizal fungi to transfer nutrients from the soil to the plant roots, and in return, the mycorrhizal fungi receives carbon from the plant.

Although I don't like mushrooms but I like to click the pics as there are so many varieties of mushrooms are there. Somewhere I like to eat in pizza 😬 Thanks for sharing.
