Naaz's extraordinary story
Jin, Jiyan, Azadi. In other words: Woman, life, freedom, is the saying that has become synonymous with the freedom struggle of Kurdish, Turkish, Iranian and Syrian women in recent years. Rotterdam singer Naaz Mohammad (1998) also dedicated her new music to the saying, because she herself is also looking for freedom.
Naaz's career starts like a thunderbolt. She participated in Holland's Got Talent in 2014 and thus entered the music industry as a sixteen-year-old girl. A year later, she scored big hits with EDM trio Yellow Claw and debuted as a solo artist in 2016. Her songs “Words”, “Up To Something” and “Loving Love” were all named 3FM Megahit, she won two Edisons in 2018, was named the pop talent of the year by de Volkskrant that same year and does extensive international tours with world stars such as Hayley Kiyoko and Melanie Martinez.
In the documentary Naaz: AzadĂ®, VPRO 3voor12 follows singer Naaz's comeback. In her teenage years, Naaz quickly grew into a highly successful singer. But behind the scenes, she was traumatized by physical, mental and financial abuse. In this documentary she tells her story.
