Nature in the Netherlands
When I search for nature on Yoors, I come across a range of blogs that deal with nature. Often it's about nature from a vacation abroad. The nature that we now see in the Netherlands is completely different from the nature of about 50 years ago. We don't think about it, today's nature is still beautiful. We see green pastures that lie with it like a billiard sheet. A lot of plants, fungi and animals have been reduced or lost and the scrawling continues every day. According to the Council for the Environment and Infrastructure, it is “Complete ecosystems on the brink of collapse.” The number of animals, plants and fungi is rapidly decreasing due to the construction, construction of roads and intensive agriculture. In the Netherlands, more nature disappears than average in Europe. In addition, the restoration of ecological water quality, as agreed in the Water Framework Directive in 2000 and which the Netherlands must comply with by 2027, threatens to fail.
Worldwide, nature is deteriorating at a worrying rate. That certainly also applies to the Netherlands. From agricultural areas to natural areas, from inland waterways to urban areas: nature quality and biodiversity fall everywhere.
Nature in the immediate environment is also essential for the health and well-being of people. In addition, a good state of nature is important for the availability of, among other things, drinking water, healthy food and clean air. Nature is a precondition for man.
Dutch rivers, lakes, puddles and canals do not meet European standards, experts said last Saturday in NRC. Water quality is so poor in many places that this can result in fines of tens of millions of euros from Brussels.
If the water quality does not get better, it can lead to a 'water crisis', in which construction projects are coming to a standstill, just as in the current nitrogen crisis.
