Nature restoration and the development of resilient ecosystems are critical to meeting the challenge of renewable and sustainable resources, now and in the future. This requires understanding the dynamics of ecosystem restoration and resilience, working with industry to make restoration a future 'investment', and with research partners to create resilient ecosystems that can respond to environmental impacts such as invasive species, acid rain, nitrogen deposition and climate change.

Built-up land consists mainly of residential and business parks. In addition, 34 percent consists of nature and indoor and outdoor waternuts2, including 05 million hectares of forest and other types of natural terrain, such as heathland, beaches and dunes (12 percent of the total area of our country).

Heischral grasslands are among the most flowery vegetation in heathlands. There are all kinds of rare species blooming. Unfortunately, the heischral grasslands are seriously endangered and it is increasingly difficult to find them. The Havelterberg in Drenthe is such a herbaceous grassland and is famous for the plant species that grow there. WUR researchers are committed to restoring this unique type of nature.
