Nightcrawler Movie Review & Film Summary (2014)
Nightcrawler sees Jake Gyllenhaal as a thief who starts filming accidents and crimes in Los Angeles and selling footage of accidents and crimes in Los Angeles to their news channels. In Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal plays Louis "Lou" Bloom, a stringer who records violent nighttime events in Los Angeles and sells the footage to a local Los Angeles television station. Cold and calculating, but enthusiastic and determined, actor Jake Gyllenhaal's idiosyncratic creation stumbles upon his new profession when he meets crime videographer Joe Loder (Bill Paxton) at the scene of a car accident. Lou Bloom is a single-minded, sociopath-like individual who discovers that Lou Bloom has a "night crawl" talent when he makes videos of real crimes about to be shown on the news. When Louie Bloom, a con man in desperate need of a job, enters the world of Los Angeles crime journalism, Louie Bloom blurs the line between observer and participant to become the protagonist of his own story. All it takes is a few burning cars and a hectic freelance news team to convince Lou that if he muster up the courage, he can join the nightly news hunters and become the best. By chance, the young man soon finds himself in the role of a freelance cameraman who travels all over Los Angeles to shoot footage that might interest television news editors and get a few hundred dollars for it. Both Rupert and the young man show sociopathic tendencies and both men just want a chance to make it big; both men also break the law by trying to get what they want, but unlike Rupert's kidnapping of a famous TV star, Louie is smart enough to know that he can make the news, not show it. This revelation is the most sinister and darkly satirical part of Nightcrawler, but it makes the young man an almost priceless asset. In one of the films with many unusual episodes, Louis is indeed the first to get into a triple shooting and film the minutes before the police arrive. [Sources: 1]
Night Craler is a unique thriller about a man who makes a living filming violent crime, so as you can imagine, this film is extremely dark and twisted. Psychological well-being aside, screenwriter Dan Gilroy's directorial debut works very effectively as a subtle thriller with a city at night lending a cold metallic sheen to cinematographer Robert Elsweet. Michael Manns: "Accomplice" throbbed like a headache, while "Jake Gyllenhaal's new film," thanks to its cinematographer Robert Elsweet, whose previous work includes "There'll Be Blood" and "Good Night and Good Luck," is more of a racing drive. It's the only area of interest Nightcrawler himself shuns, though I can imagine Gyllenhaals sticking the camera to the pillow while Nina (Rene Russo) jumps out of bed to change the outcome. The scariest is the romantic dinner between the Gillenhas character and Nina, during which he analyzes his career and explains why, if he wants to keep her alive, he will need exclusive access to his material, so , logically because she has to sleep with him. Gyllenhas' character was the first to respond, and in addition to filming the bloodbath from a TV perspective, he was smart enough to come up with a second act. [Sources: 0]
One evening, while pulling over near a car crash, he finds not only the cops but also a camera crew filming the drama as it unfolds. At night, Gyllenhaal's character steals copper wire and sells it for scrap; he even steals hatches - an entry-level crime in every sense of the word. [Sources: 0]
Dan Gilroy believed that antiheroes are rare in films because they are hard to write and tend to turn into psychopaths; trying to break with the stereotype, he conceived the idea of writing an anti-hero success story. Dan Gilroy, who wrote and directed Nightcrawler, originally intended to highlight the struggles of nighttime reporters when Dan Gilroy grew tired of the regular hero arc and threw us into This Movie. His brother, Tony Gilroy, described the script as "absolutely fascinating," noting that everyone who read the script later wanted to be part of the film industry's rare Nightcrawler. Tangier Roy told Riz Ahmed he'd seen his previous work; it didn't fit Lublum's character, but still got him through the audition. [Sources: 8]
Unlike preparing for the roles of Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz Ahmed, his wife Rene Russo did not consult news directors or reporters because she thought Nina could be in any industry and didn't want to interfere She has only one profession. Before long, Gyllenhaals Louis Bloom finds herself an ardent ally of Nina (Rene Russo), a middle-aged news editor from a low-key branch whose Excessive eyeshadow and barely concealed desperation tell us she's here. Nina (Rene Russo) is at the end of her career of diminishing returns. [Sources: 7, 8]
Eventually, a petty thief attempts to blackmail desperate news editor Nina Romina (Rene Russo) into getting him perks when it comes to buying footage. The editor of the morning news explodes with rage at Bloom, asking him to get the footage that viewers "can't turn their backs on" and fulfill their end of the bargain. As Cary lies dying, Bloom films another and tells Cary that she can't work with someone she doesn't trust. As Louis "Lou" Bloom's assistant, he films him and tells him that he can't work with someone who has influence over him. [Sources: 8, 9, 10]
