No more women in Bollywood music.
While many activities in Indian public life have been dominated by men, there is one where women have taken the lead, playing vocals in Bollywood music. But in recent years, even that has changed: the melodic voices you hear in the top films have become more and more masculine.

Bollywood music albums didn't always look like this. We analyzed more than 24,000 Bollywood songs from the 50 most notable films of every year since 1950 and found that the proportion of songs sung by women is continually declining. Take the solo for example, that most versatile Bollywood music. The solo can be used to introspect, as in Sunday Kaisi Hai Paheli , sung by Manna Dey, or to seduce, like Don's classic Yeh Mera Dil sung by Asha Bhosle. Although it is still part of the Bollywood films, one in four solos are sung by women today. Compare that to the '50s and '60s, where they sang three in every four.
