Why I Could Never Become A Rich

Is hard work the sole determinant of material success?

The answer is NO.

A rickshaw puller, labourer works like a Trojan, to keep his body and soul together.
On the other hand, foxy government officials, sitting in air-conditioned rooms, doing nothing but posing themselves as very busy, get handsome salaries as well as unethical "additional income".

I have concluded that to become affluent, hard work plays a negligible role, some other essential ingredients are also required.

In the following lines, I have listed the essential constituents if one wants to be an opulent, and the reasons why material success eluded me :

(a) तरक्कीयां जिंदगी में हम जरूर पा लेते, बेशुमार
रसूख़ वालों के तलवे गर हम चाट लेते, बारम्बार

(b) हां, हमारे लहजे में कभी "जी हुजूर" ना था
शायद यही हमारा सबसे बड़ा कसूर भी था

(c) बेच देते गर हम भी अपना ज़मीर
साहब, हम कबके हो जाते अमीर

(a) I could have improved my economic status by repeatedly flattering, prostrating before the powerful, influential people.

(b) I have never been a yes-man, never been a sycophant. Perhaps that was the greatest hurdle in my achieving material success.

(c) I only listened only to my heart, my conscience.
Believe me, I could have become a rich person  long time back if I had simply muffled the voice of my conscience.
