The Maasheggen , on the border of Brabant and Limburg, already described by the Romans for its splendor, form the oldest cultural landscape in the country. A trip through the area is like an exciting journey of discovery through time. It is the most extensive hedge landscape in the Netherlands, where a mosaic of hedges, meadows, drinking pools and old club trees have been providing a safe home to a special variety of plants and animals for centuries. In this relatively small area on the border between North Brabant and Limburg, thousands of years of history come together. There is no area in Europe where nature, landscape, economy and culture are so visible and long lasting intertwined. It is not for nothing that the Maasheggen has, since the summer of 2018, UNESCO human and biosphere status.
