The cataclysm that is known by the name of the Lisbon earthquake happens. This earthquake took about six minutes, and about 60 thousand people died, had a range of eleven million kilometers paintings of land. It spread from Lisbon and felt in most of Europe, Africa and America. It was felt in Greenland and the Antilles. The earthquake was as strong in Africa as in Europe itself.
This unfortunate disaster occurred between 09:30 and 09:40 hours on November 1, 1755, was characterized by its long duration, and the most surprising thing is that it was divided into phases besides it was very violent, causing the death of between 60.000 y 100.000 personas. Seismologists estimate that the magnitude of the Lisbon earthquake would have been between 8.5 to 9.5 on the scale of magnitude at the moment, with its epicenter somewhere unknown somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean less than 300 km from Lisbon. And in spite of how far his epicenter was caused terrible damage.
And if we want to add more to what happened, then it was followed by a tsunami and fire that caused the almost total devastation of Lisbon.It was so much so that the earthquake accentuated political tensions in Portugal and abruptly interrupted the colonial ambitions of Portugal during the 18th century.
