November 1 World Vegan Day
World Vegan Day took place for the first time on 1 November 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of the British Vegan Society and the term “Vegan”. The Vegan Society was founded in November 1944. The exact date is unknown, therefore the 1st of the month is kept. The term 'Vegan' is derived from 'vegetarian' and at first Vegan meant that, apart from meat, one did not consume dairy products. Later, eggs were added and from 1951 the term Vegan stands for 'not exploiting animals'. Every year on World Vegan Day, festivities and events are organised all over the world, by Vegan organizations and by private individuals. #veganisme
Where veganism had a dusty image a few years ago, today it is trendy and increasingly normal to eat vegetable. More and more people are starting to feel for a vegan lifestyle. The one chooses mainly because of the personal health , the other for ethical reasons and yet another, it is about the overall picture. In the Netherlands, in 2020 there are such 150 thousand vegans.
