Originally Christians worship Saint Nicholas, a 4th century Greek bishop of Mira (Turkey) pious to the poor and with children. Gradually, his figure metamorphoses with that of Santa Claus, who has more features of Odin than any Christian saint.

If Turkey was the homeland of Christianity that ended up embracing another religion (Islam), the other peninsula north of it (Scandinavian) was the homeland of Odin's creed, which was violently Christianized, but on condition that it had a lot of influence on the religion of its conquerors.

Odin was the main god of the German and Viking peoples. Chanting their name they were going to war and were licensed to loot, rape, torture, massacre, burn and immolate.

Odin is depicted as a man with an extensive beard riding on an 8-legged flying horse. He, in turn, appeared at the Yuli festivities around the northern winter solstice, in which trees were adorned, to give gifts to children who left empty boots hung on their doors.

The Christianizers of these villages managed to place the epicenter of the Yuli feast which was governed by a lunar calendar within December 25 of the Gregorian solar calendar.

In this way, the tree with gifts and ornaments was integrated into christmas. Progressively, the figure of a bearded man who visited children at that time (initially to punish the spoiled) went into North America.

Dutch who celebrated these Nordic rites brought him to New Amsterdam (which would later be called New York, in honor of the former Viking capital of England).
