It is remarkable that the VVD made the coalition clap on narrowly travelers, because that would supposedly be the big problem. The new party leader candidate? A narrowly traveller. Typical example of coming from the top of the mountain and stepping down to the people who come after you.

As Minister of Justice, she wants to ban or severely limit family reunification for refugees. The Rutte IV cabinet fell over that proposal because the ChristenUnie refused to introduce that callous measure.

Once upon a time, there was a country that treated asylum-seekers like people. That country was called the Netherlands. When, as a seven-year-old little girl, I had to flee from Turkey from the Turkish regime with my mother and sister of three, the Dutch government invited us and even paid for our KLM ticket. My father was already waiting for us there. His journey had been a lot harder, across the mountains of Oran and Lrak. The church furnished our home. My mother got a nice cross to hang over her bed and even though we weren't believers, the nuns thought we could use a hand of help, no matter where it came from. That cross still hangs over my mother's bed. Me and my sister were allowed to go to school and my parents were allowed to learn Dutch right away. We were accepted by the neighbors, teachers and quickly had friends. I know, you don't believe me, but this story actually happened!

After a carefree childhood, I went to study at the Free University in Amsterdam. During my studies, I gradually discovered that the refugees who now arrived in the Netherlands were suddenly treated as third-class citizens. “All fortune seekers”. Happiness lies where your family and friends are sunbathing, where you feel at home. No one leaves their home for fun, including me. I realized more and more that I had been extremely lucky. If we had fled 15 years later, I wouldn't have been able to write this piece now, I was now in an MC waiting for me to be deported. I also wanted to offer the opportunities I received in the Netherlands to other refugees. Becoming active within a political party, hoping to do something, seemed to me to be the only solution. With the SP, I hope to be able to make a difference in the lives of the refugees in Amersfoort. We often forget that their lives have been standing still for years, waiting in an MC. There is an enormous amount of joie de vivre, knowledge and passion hidden there! #politics #elections
