The crochet pattern is by Mrs. de Jong

Put on: a strand of 20 dissolve and make a ring of it by means of a half fixed. Then work 20 fasts by inserting into the ring. Then continue with 3 unloading, which counts as a baton. After that, in the next 6 fasts, work 6 sticks. Then work 1 loose and then work 7 sticks in the next 7 fasts.

Turn the work around and start with 3 unloading as the first baton. Then 6 sticks on top of the underlying sticks and a 7th stick over the loose of the underlying row. Then again a loose and then another stick around the loose of the underlying round. You continue with 7 sticks on top of the underlying sticks.

The following rows you do the same, but because there are 2 sticks in the middle, your crocheted down becomes wider and wider.

You are ready when you have crocheted a total of 18 rows. At the end of that row you crochet a loose one and then continue with a border along the crochet with fasting. To each end stick you crochet two fasts, so you get 36 fasts.

When you arrive at the ring you hook a half fixed in each stitch, until you reach the other side. There you crochet again around each end stick two fasts, again 36 fasts.

The edge ends there, so the bottom is not finished further. It's beautiful of itself. If you work away your starting and end thread for a while, then your old-fashioned potholder is ready.

If you want to crochet a more complicated potholder, try the retro potholder from 1965 or the potholder with weaving stitch. You need to be a little more practiced for this.

Buy old-fashioned crocheted potholders

You can buy these old-fashioned crocheted potholders from me. They cost €6,95 each. There are on average 6 different colors available and for sale. They are available through the tiny webshop of mrsdejong, my alterego.
Mrs de Jong (or mrsdejong, I use both names mixed) is a remnant of my children's clothing store in Amsterdam, which is closed at the end of 2018.

Do you want a different color? That can be. Choose one of the colors of Drops Paris, which can be viewed via the Wolplein website (at the bottom of the page you will find all 47 colours). Tell me the number of the color and I'll order the cotton. I'll hook that color of old-fashioned potholders, especially in your colors of your kitchen. I'm not asking for extra money for that, but I'm asking you to pay the potholders in advance. You'll have them in the house in a week. Send me an e-mail and it'll be okay.
