From 1970 to 1973, the game program One out of eight was broadcast on Dutch television once a month on Saturday night by the VARA. Mies Bouwman presented it. The number of channels that could be received was so limited that almost every family with a television watched the programme.

Four duos competed against each other in different games. This left two candidates who had to answer questions in a spotlight chair. Mies always started this with the legendary phrase: “light off, spot on”. The winner of this was allowed to play the final behind the assembly line. On the conveyor belt, all sorts of articles and a question mark passed at a fast pace for one minute. The candidate had to try to remember as many articles as possible. He would have won the articles he could list in just one minute after stopping the band. At home in front of the tube, of course everyone participated; who knew what had passed on the band? The question mark stood for a big gift or a trip. Artists also performed in the programme between the rounds of the game.
