Het is 1 april en honderd zestig kilometer van Shanghai in Hangzhou, China, staan duizenden mensen halsreikend uit te kijken naar een prachtig natuurfenomeen. Daar komt het al! Dendenderend en wel 9 meter hoog rolt een golf snel doorheen de Qiantang rivier. Sommige waaghalzen hebben er zich zelfs met een zeilboot voorgezet en proberen de golf net te snel af te zijn.

De golf petst hoog en met een luid geraas tegen een bocht en zwaait met een langgerekte zwoeng hoog over de lange reling heen. De mensen staan er, voorzichtigheidshalve, iets vandaan.

Je hoort ze verbaasd in koor OOH! roepen. Het is dan ook steeds een indrukwekkend en prachtig zicht. Daarom noemen ze in China deze hoge languitgerekte golf de 'Zilveren Draak'. Het trekt ieder jaar duizende toeristen.
