On December 21, 1983, the Monument to Peace was inaugurated, also called Monument to the Virgen de la Paz, which measures 46, 72 meters high and is considered the tallest habitable sculpture in America.
La Paz Monument, located at 1,600 meters above sea level in Trujillo state in western Venezuela, turned 36 years old.
This is a place of pilgrimage to which many tourists and believers come to, in order to pay promises, pray rosaries, search for spiritual peace.
Its construction lasted 18 months, was carried out by sculptors Manuel de la Fuente and Rosendo Camargo, in addition to the collaboration of priest Juan Francisco Hernández.
It stands on a steel structure, which constitutes the skeleton of empty sculpture in particular, has a weight of 1,200 tons spread over 46.72 meters in height. The head of this monument weighs 8 tons.
This sculpture is located at 1,700 meters above sea level, its cost was Bs 9,000,000.00 for its time.
Bystander. The structure has 5 viewpoints which are described below:
Mirador 01: Located at knee level at a height of 18 m, which allows you to see the city of Trujillo and El Seminario Diocesan.
Mirador 02: At the level of the left hand, at an altitude of 22 m, you can see the City of Trujillo, the plains of Monay, Agua Viva, Isnotú, Betijoque, La Ceiba, Motatán and Pampanito.
Viewpoint 03: At the level of the right hand, at an altitude of 26 m, you can see the City of Trujillo and La Teta de Niquitao (The highest mountain in Trujillo State, 4,006 meters high).
Mirador 04: Located at the waist level (rear), you can see the South Zone of Lake Maracaibo, La Cresta de la Sierra Nevada de Mérida, the Boundaries with Lara and much of Trujillana geography.
Mirador 05: Located at eye level, you can see the City of Trujillo and its surroundings.
Next to the Peace Monument there is a small dome chapel whose dome is decorated with a colourful stained glass window showing the glow of a dove as a spiritual symbol of peace.
Memories. Since 1568, the virgin of Our Lady of Peace has been the spiritual patron saint of Trujillo and also of the Diocese since 1960.
The dove held in his right hand symbolizes the commission of the presidency of the Republic of Venezuela to cry for peace on earth.
The Monument to Peace, was managed for years by a private foundation, after which it became run by the Trujillo State Governorate.
