The need to promote humanized childbirth is evident, however, a psychoprophylactic course consists not only in preparing for natural childbirth, but also a comprehensive learning experience for the couple to make pregnancy, birth and lactation a unique, complete and rewarding experience.

This course should be provided by a certified perinatal educator, as only she will be able to guide the couple, help them overcome their fears and establish a delivery plan appropriate to their needs and desires.

The course is divided into three areas:


Cognitive
Physics
Emotional
From the cognitive point of view, psychoprophylaxis provides tools for the couple to be able to choose the type of childbirth they want to have, taking into account the different possible scenarios.

Theoretical topics related to pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, breastfeeding, newborn care, among others are discussed during the sessions.. For example, fear of childbirth pain is largely reduced with information acquired during the course, as myths about pregnancy and birth of the baby are denied.

The course also teaches breathing techniques for women to learn to properly oxygenate her body and be able to control labor without complications, thereby strengthening the link between her and her baby.

From the physical point of view, exercises are developed to strengthen and tone some muscles that are required to have in good condition in labor. It is also sought that women learn to know her body and thus reduce the respiratory, cardiac, muscular and circulatory problems typical of this stage.

Emotionally the most important thing is that the woman regain confidence and safety in her own body, that is, in the potential of her nature. In addition, by a psychoprophylactic course the man is involved in pregnancy so that together with his partner they can enjoy this stage to the fullest.

It is important that the perinatal educator and the partner accept the medical indication of cesarean section if it is for the health of the baby. We should not forget that the main goal is the well-being of the mother and her child. Remember that no matter how it happens: birth will be a beautiful and unique experience in any way.
