Paper Easter Eggs

Paper mache Easter eggs can look beautiful to decorate the house for Easter and can also be an option if you plan to arrange a dinner or a party for the occasion.

Necessary materials

balloons (those that our kids use to fill with water in summer)

white tissue paper (1 sheet per 3 eggs)

colored tissue paper

1 punch

brush

liquid starch laundry

1 sturdy glass (to work the egg on it)

rope

drilling machine

Step by step

Before you get to work it is necessary to prepare the materials. First, cut the white tissue paper into: a rectangle of 25cmx14cm, one 25cmx11.5 and two 25cmx9cm. These four rectangles will be the base of the egg.

Then cut out squares of colored paper with holes to later create the moles of each egg. To do this, cut out a strip of tissue paper 4cm wide (throughout the length of the paper), fold the strip in half twice and finally, folded into three parts. Then make the holes with the drill and cut each square separately. Two colored strips should be more than enough for one egg.

Also, cut a 2.5cm wide color paper band and trim triangles of different sizes.

When you have these materials ready, you can start making Easter eggs from papier-mache. Inflate each balloon until you get the shape of an egg. Grab one and paint it with liquid starch. Then place the white sheet 14cm high and wrap it by the widest part of the balloon, aligning the top so that it reaches the knot. Dip the brush into the starch again and paint on the paper from the center to the top, letting the tissue crumple. Prosegui in the same way from the center to the bottom. Repeat the operation first with the 11.5cm high blade and then with the two 9cm high.

Hang the balloon from the rope and allow it to dry for at least 20 minutes before proceeding. Start covering the balloon with the colored squares from the knot down. To do this, place the square and brush with liquid starch. Try to cover the whole white surface of the egg

If in some places moles are not seen by the overlap of colored squares, do not worry! Stick a triangle there and you're done.. Hang the egg again from the rope and let dry overnight.

To remove the balloon (once the egg is well dry), hold it from the knot and use the fine punch (or a pin) to make a small hole. The balloon will deflate slowly and you can remove it by pulling the knot.

Now yes, it's time to fill the Easter eggs with papier-mache. To do this, make a straight cut with a scissor from the hole where the knot was down. The papier-mache is very flexible, so you should have no problem to introduce sweets and surprises through that opening.

When the egg is full, place a small bow from side to side with a card with the name of the enterado or with the legend “pull here”. Carefully place pieces of colored paper over the openings with the help of liquid starch and let dry. You'll see that the eggs are tightly closed!
