Paper Towns - John Green book review
☆☆
Paper Towns is a book I had very high expectations of. A long time ago I saw the movie, so I knew a little what the book was about. But I didn't expect it to be so dislike.
Quentin and Margo Roth Spiegelman find a dead man in the park when they're nine years old. After that, they're out of contact for ten years, until Margo knocks on the window of Q's room one night. The next day, she's gone. The night before the disappearance of Margo, they and Q make an unforgettable journey through the city where they live. Q has the feeling that that night an unbreakable bond was created between him and Margo. If she disappears, he won't leave it there.. Like every time she ran away before, Margo left clues where she went. This time the clues for Q are meant.
Paper Towns can be read in both Dutch and English and is written by John Green. I myself have read the English edition.
In the beginning I had a lot of trouble with the book. It didn't catch me.. I didn't have the urge to read through. Halfway through the book, that got a little better, but it didn't last long. On some pieces I was completely in it and I saw everything in front of me, but most of the book didn't really get through to me. It's the first time I had to go to a lot of trouble to read a book.
My expectations of this book were high. I had seen him a lot on TikTok and I saw the film years ago.. In my eyes, it just wasn't fascinating enough. I understand the intent of the book and it's very well written, but I didn't like it.
