Perfume Notes and Their Effects: Learn the Secrets of Fragrance Development
Introduction: What are Perfume Notes?
Perfume notes form the building blocks of every fragrance and determine how a perfume unfolds after application. Each fragrance consists of different layers, which together form the complete fragrance profile. These layers are called perfume notes and play a crucial role in how we experience a perfume, from the first impression to the long-lasting scent that lingers on the skin.
There are three main types of perfume notes: top notes , heart notes , and base notes . Each of these notes develops at different times after applying a perfume, providing a dynamic fragrance experience.
-
Top notes : These are the scents that you smell immediately after application. They form the first impression of a perfume and usually disappear after about 15 minutes to half an hour. Typical top notes are light and fresh scents such as citrus fruits, mint, and light flowers.
-
Heart notes : After the top notes, the middle notes appear. This is the central part of the perfume and is considered to be the βheartβ of the fragrance. Heart notes usually last for a few hours and often contain floral, spicy or fruity scents.
