A petition that impeached the Recording Academy President, CEO Neil Portnow Demand, over a comment for which he has apologised, is rapidly approaching his 10,000 signatures goal. The petition is, of course, only a suggestion and has no direct say in Portnow's status in the Recording Academy.

The reason for the petition was the 2018 Grammy Awards. It was noticed that very few women were nominated and actually went home with a Grammy. And to make matters worse, Neil Portnow missed the following words.

“It has to start with. women who have the creativity in their heart and soul, want to be musicians, engineers, producers, and want to be part of the industry at the executive level. They have to climb up because I think they would be welcome.I have no personal experience with the kind of brick walls you're facing, but I think it's up to us, us as an industry, to make the welcome mat very clear, offering opportunities for all people who want to be creative and pay for it and create that next generation of artists”
