In 2009 nam onze regering de taak op zich om de kinderen van elke school gratis ter beschikking te stellen, een zeer belangrijk technologisch hulpmiddel voor hun studie, een laptop, deze bevatte applicaties en al zijn educatieve inhoud aangepast aan ons land, ontwikkeling en aanpassing van hetzelfde feit door programmeurs en verschillende Venezolaanse professionals in samenwerking, het gebruik van het Canaima-besturingssysteem op basis van Linux maakte het mogelijk dankzij de open en gratis broncode. Het doel van het project was om technologische onafhankelijkheid te bereiken. De evolutie ervan heeft diversificatie mogelijk gemaakt naar nieuwe producten zoals: Canaima Educativo, Canaima Comunal, Canaima Colibrí, Canaima Forense, Canaima Caribay, Canaima CNTI, Canaima Popular en Canaima Cantv.

Para el año 2009 nuestro gobierno emprendió la tarea de dotar a los niños de cada escuela de manera gratuita, de una herramienta tecnológica muy importante para sus estudios, una laptop, esta contenía aplicaciones y todo su contenido educativo adaptado a nuestro país, el desarrollo y adaptación del mismo hecho por programadores y distintos profesionales venezolanos en colaboración, el empleo del sistema operativo Canaima basado en Linux lo permitía gracias a su código fuente abierto y libre. El objetivo del proyecto era alcanzar la independencia tecnológica. Su evolución ha permitido la diversificación hacia nuevos productos como: Canaima Educativo, Canaima Comunal, Canaima Colibrí, Canaima Forense, Canaima Caribay, Canaima CNTI, Canaima Popular y Canaima Cantv.
