Provincial elections on March 15, 2023
Every four years, the members of the Provincial States are elected on the basis of proportional representation. In addition to the national political parties, provincial parties can also participate in these elections. The members of Provincial States elect the Senate once every four years. They do that shortly after they take office. The next Provincial Elections are on March 15, 2023.
Province tasks
The province is a layer of government between the State and municipalities. The province has various tasks:
Room layout: where homes can be built, where a nature reserve will be built, how the (railway) roads run, where an industrial area or windmills will be built.
Nature and environment: nature management, environment, licensing, supervision and enforcement
Climate and energy: stimulating and financing renewable energy
