Quarantine
Quarantine.
Strange word actually, Qua is in a lot of words that have something to do with four. Quadrate, Quad (four wheels) Quadriceps (which muscles on your thigh).
So I went to the search, and yes... quarantine comes from forty, four so all times ten. Forty days, sailors who were going to dock in Italy were supposed to stay in the ship in the fourteenth century before they were allowed to unload.
Forty days! Pretty long, so actually, we're not doing a quarantine at all in those two weeks that we're holding right now. But why did they do that then? The difference is not really great, it was then about the eradication of the plague.
Well, there you are... forty days on a ship, mind you, a ship you've been on for quite a while before, you were just glad you could finally land. Unfortunately, not.
