A FEW YEARS LATER
Jacob Black
I rushed into the hospital, immediately after I was called to be delivered the great news. My wife had given birth! What was more exciting than that? Nothing, at this joyful for our family moment. Just wait until the Cullens heard that. They would all be elated.
I, myself, was incredibly proud of my love. She had gone through the difficult task of giving birth and stay alive at the same time. We had all been concerned whether the baby would make it alive, there was the possibility of losing Renesmee during the childbirth. Alas, thanks to our prayers, they were both secure.
Rushing through the tiny corridors, pushing nearly everyone out of my way, I finally reached the room in which was Renesmee.
Ah! There she was - my wonderful wife, holding our newborn daughter. The tiny infant in her arms was beyond adorable. She reminded me so much of my younger self from my photos - russet-skinned, wrapped in a cutesy baby blanket and wearing a small hat.
Renesmee looked at the calendar, which marked the 27th of March. I had to memorize that day - our daughter's birthday. I wondered how fast she would grow. Would she have a somewhat normal childhood? Would we see her attending kindergarten and preschool? If not, the least we could hope was for her to be safe and sound and to find her own way in life.
I approached Renesmee slowly and carefully like she was going to disappear any minute. She hadn't noticed my presence yet, ogling the petite creature in her arms and softly touching her face, careful not to wake her up. Eventually, she raised her eyes from the baby and announced:
"Her name is Winona - Winona Alaska Cullen-Black. It means first-born and Alaska is where I proposed," she chuckled.
I smiled at the name. Sure, I liked it, it definitely fit the situation, especially the first-born part, but hadn't my wife considered trying the tradition her mother had attempted to come up with - to make a portmanteau name? Or to use the initials EJ, like the name Renesmee would have if she was a born a boy?
"Jacob Jordan Black, are you kidding me?", she looked at me askew and began explaining how EJ was not "our" name and how our daughter deserved her own name to be recognized from the rest of the world. I ended up agreeing with her. Winona deserved better than to be in the shadow of relatives she had never and would never meet.
Winona Alaska Cullen-Black.
Renesmee smiled, before handing Winona to me. I was scared of dropping her. She was so fragile, so tender, like all the newborn babies.
"Hey, little soldier," I cooed at my sleeping baby girl. At this moment, I wondered what species was she. Was she going to be a danger for our world? I pleaded not.
A couple of days later, my wife was discharged from the hospital and that was the second happiest day of this month. I couldn't wait to show her the surprise I had prepared in our new house in Ireland. Renesmee adored Ireland. She thought that was her place, because most people were red-haired and freckled, just like her. She perfectly fit in among the crowd.
"Ready?", she smiled brightly, holding little Winona. I, as a gentleman, was carrying all of the luggage to the car.
The sun was shining brightly as me, my love and our little soldier walked out of the hospital, ready to begin our new life.
