Jack and Clint were on their way to the place where other garments were hidden that would be less noticeable. There would also be the necessary documents that a contact person in the New World had arranged for them. They had several of those places that they used in a field operation they had set up in the past and that were obviously important for a mission on foreign soil.

That way, they could move and legitimize themselves in the New World without much inconvenience. There was one little problem. Nothing usually went as planned, and Jack knew that this was the case with many of his assignments. Statistically, it was only a small chance that on enemy territory everything went as previously planned..

They walked in with their eyes open on a patrol guarding the border. In a bend that deprived them of sight of this reconnaissance unit, the inevitable. Fortunately, it was only at the extreme moment that the patrol realized that they were dealing with an enemy group. It became a man against man fight. With the bare fist and with the knife. Using a gun or rifle could hit either friend or enemy. Experienced people like Jack and Clint and also the people of the guard round who fought them knew this. After Jack and Clint had eliminated three quarters of the reconnaissance unit in favor of surprise, Clint got a knife stab in his left side at one point. Jack was able to defuse the last two of the group, but the disaster had already happened. Clint lay on his back and bled like a beef. Jack investigated the condition of his comrade but immediately saw that he could not help much about this. On the one hand, he was not a doctor, he tried to stabilize Clint's condition with a hastily applied pressure bandage, but that's all he could do. Certainly not without jeopardizing the mission. Clint read the verdict in the eyes of his friend. After all, he was a veteran and knew when he was defeated.

β€œYou'll have to go on alone without me, Jack, β€œClint gasped.. He was pale and the wound bled further. It was a serious wound that would be fatal without proper care. Without a direct intervention in the first hours in a hospital, he would not survive. Both Clint and Jack realized this.
