Requiem: Chapter 45
Gekko was highly concentrated on at least five screens at the same time keeping an eye on certain parameters. Yuri and Nikolay had a hard time. The wind had taken them halfway through the tower. They had started their climb at the raids of darkness and had counted on three hours to reach the summit. Up to almost 400 meters high they had climbed faster than expected. Apparently nature had suddenly decided otherwise in the form of an unexpected wind. The two façade tourists were not ready for their test piece, and they persisted in their heavy task, despite the fact that they were progressing a lot slower. It took more and more effort to take the next step, or to move the other hand. Gekko immediately made a new simulation and calculated that it would take at least a few extra hours before Yuri and Nikolay reached the summit. That was the optimistic version of his simulation.
On another screen, Gekko saw that on the ground floor at the entrance of the tower some commotion had arisen. Also the night watchman of the New World Highest had seen a lady pass by who was suddenly attacked by some street thief and hung out with her handbag. The young man wearing a balaclava pushed the lady to the floor, grabbed her purse and fled.
Peter Jackson, one of the night watchmen in the New World Highest saw the lady lay down motionless. He knew the company's timetables. Under no circumstances could he leave his post. From behind his workstation he kept an eye on a dozen screens, a boring job, but night work paid well. The rules prescribed to contact the police in such a case. But the lady could be unconscious, hurt or have had a heart attack from the fright. Peter Jackson had taken an accident first aid course and passed with distinction. That's why he knew that in some cases the first minutes were crucial. His empathy in this situation won it from his work ethic. He came from behind his scenes looking for his bishop to unlock the double door. The lady still did not move. Without hesitation, he turned off the door alarm, found the right key, unlocked the building and rushed out.. Just as he came to the lady, he saw that she gave signs of life. She tried to sit upright with difficulty. A sigh of relief escaped him. She looked at him with dazed eyes.
“What happened? How... oh yeah, my purse, a thief, I... could I get a glass of water. I don't feel so good..“The lady in question did not look wrong. Slavic features in her face and very seductive eyes. Eyes you could swim and drown in, Peter Jackson thought as many before him had described Iléna Federova's eyes.
