When you see the beautiful cover of Mirjam Molenaar's The Fire of the Stranger, you want to know where the firefight took place and why the firefight took place. You also want to know if the plate is Delft blue, Chinese porcelain or another type of plate. It's nice that everything you see on the cover can also be found in the book. The title makes you curious about the story. The subtitle shows what you can expect from the book. The photo of a tableau completes the book.
In Mirjam Molenaar's Fire of the Stranger, Sytze faces a loss through the Dutch-English War, including a trauma that he eventually manages to overcome. He is forced to leave the island he lived on all his life. He ends up in Friesland and knows how to make himself indispensable to a company. Meanwhile, he continues to wonder how two people important to him are doing, whether they managed to survive or whether they have died. He also wants to know about the astrolabe he received from his father. The question is whether he will ever find out.
