#revision Buying a second-hand motorcycle always involves risk, as it may be in poor condition. Here are some tips for you to carry out a thorough inspection of the vehicle to ensure that you buy a vehicle in good condition.
Don't trust the look. Although a good appearance is important, it should not be determined, since mechanical flaws can be hidden under its careful appearance. To check that everything is fine, you have to review the points listed below.
Real kilometers. Although no one escapes us that the odometer can be tricked, the figure indicated on it can give you an idea of the real kilometers the motorcycle has traveled, if we take into account both the general appearance of the vehicle and the wear and tear of some parts.
Watch out for blows. Make sure that there are no defects such as rubbing or bumps on delicate parts of the motorcycle: chassis, swingarm, fork, fairing if any and all accessories (mirrors, running boards, levers, etc.). If it does have them, it not only indicates that it has not been properly cared for, but it can also hide more serious breakdowns.
Look at the wear and tear of parts. It is always good to look at the condition of the drive kit, pinion, crown and chain, because if they are very worn it may mean that we will soon have to go to the workshop. The same goes for brakes or tires.
Listen to and check the engine. You have to listen carefully to the sound of the engine, since it is easy to detect faults in the mechanics if they don't sound correctly. In the same way, it is necessary to check that there are no leaks or leaks of oil or other liquids.
Weight test. It is advisable to sit on the bike and jump on it a few times to check the proper functioning of the cushioning. You also have to move the steering wheel from the driving position to check that there are no gaps in the steering.
Finally, it is necessary to check the condition of the wheel bearings, swingarm and steering.
