Gary Brooker (1945-2022) Musician Singer and pianist Gary Brooker, foreman of British band Procol Harum, passed away Saturday from cancer consequences. He was 76 years old.

Born in London and raised in Southend, Gary Brooker started the rhythm & blues band The Paramounts with guitarist Robin Trower in 1960. The Rolling Stones were fans and often played with The Paramounts together. In 1967, the band joined Procol Harum, named after the Siamese cat of an acquaintance.

About the harmonic structure of 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' related to 'Air on the G-string' Brooker said that “Bach's music was just in me” The symphonic tendencies were built on the album In Concert With The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (1972) and Grand Hotel a year later. Procol Harum quit in 1977 and reunited several times over the next forty years.
