#RKkerk 😍 23-2-2012: Meppel; demolition #Klokkentoren of the RK Stephanus Church on the Great Bank. In 2015, the entire church was demolished and #appartementen built on the spot.

Some more info 😍 The St. #Stephanusparochie in Meppel, the parish of Our Lady Visitation in Hoogeveen and the Sint Willibrordusparochie in Beilen were merged into one new parish, the Holy Trinity. Hence the Catholic community of St. Stephanus in #Meppel ; after all, its own parish no longer exists.
The church at De Vos van Steenwijklaan is the fourth own church. In the middle of the 15th century, the St. Mary's Church was Catholic in the center of Meppel. The Reformation put an end to that. In 1866 a new church building with rectory on the Zuideinde was put into use. It was a neo-Gothic church with architect H. Wennekes. Under the pastorate of J. van Daatselaar, pastor in Meppel from 1958-1964, a new church building was realized in the new building plan on the corner of the Grote Oever and the Kinkhorststraat. It became a church that accommodated 460 churchgoers. In 2015, the wrecking ball went through here. There are apartments now. In 2007, the parish moved into a renting church, owned by the liberated municipality.
