#traveling When talking about Venezuela, it is impossible not to mention its extraordinary and imposing natural monuments, especially those that have been perched for millions of years in the mystical territory of the Bolivar State; among them is the impressive Mount Roraima, also known as blue mountain or crystal mountain. It has an altitude of 2,810 meters above sea level, an area of 15 kilometers long and an area of 200 square kilometers in length. Its high walls can reach up to 500 meters high.
It is the highest point belonging to the group of tepui plateaus of the Sierra de Paracaima in South America. This mountain was first reviewed by the adventurous explorer Sir Walter Releigh in 1596. Roraima is located in the Guiana Shield, at the southeast end of the majestic Canaima National Park.
The Pemons have maintained the belief that most of these peculiar mountains are the refuge of spirits or powerful souls, whom they deeply respect; some of them often perform ceremonies, offerings and prayers to these supposed entities on one of their few visits to the summit of tepuy.
Mount Roraima is an adventurous and exciting tourist destination for all those who are risky and nature lovers. Most tourists who plan to climb this mountain, usually hire an expert guide in the famous village of Paraitepui. Leaving via a detour from the paved road, the short dirt road to the village, can be done quite easily by off-road transport or common vehicles, which are not recommended due to the degree of difficulty that arises along the way.
Starting from Paraitepui, it will only take one day to reach the base of the plateau and another to climb La Rampa, which is nothing more than a natural staircase in the rock that leads directly to the long-awaited summit. Usually, in two days the return is made. People usually spend a full day at the top, which adds up to a total of five days of expedition.
The path is very well signposted and demarcated, however, it could easily get lost at the top, as the few trails become diffuse and the presence of cloudiness becomes the main obstacle to clearly observing the visual references.
It should be noted that any other route for the ascent will require great special climbing equipment and excellent advanced practical knowledge.
An unusual alternative is to take a helicopter trip departing from Santa Elena de Uairén, to fly over this magical territory or land on the plateau.
