The chorus of singing crickets woke me up. Their song painted a smile on my lips while thinking, what a refreshing way to start a day. But then, an awful rancid smell ruined my day. It was the stench of a decaying rodent. I hysterically looked for the source of the smell while scolding my cat — dumping his prey somewhere near me.

I went out and checked the backyard, then there was this enigmatic flower. That foul odor came from it! My siblings insisted to cut it, but I told them not to because I found it interesting.

Until now, the flower is still in the backyard. Thankfully, it’s withering and doesn’t smell. This strange flora has helped me realize some rule of life —
respect and acceptance. We are all connected.

Every existing species here on Earth has a purpose just like humans. We may not know it, but this flower could be a source of living for some organisms. It may not serve of value to us, but it’s valuable to other life. And those organisms that depend on that flower may have an indirect impact on our existence.

Learn to accept and value everything around you.
And experience being valued and accepted in return.
