#venezuela The San Carlos Peninsula wrongly known as the island of San Carlos belonging to Venezuela, located to the north between the Gulf of Venezuela and Lake Maracaibo.

The island is an interesting mixture of sweet and salt because it is located right on the border between the Gulf of Venezuela and Lake Maracaibo, this beautiful island has both fresh and saltwater beaches on its shores this is one of its tourist attractions, as well as the historic Castillo de San Carlos de la Barra .

This historic castle was built in 1623 of limestone rock, the castle of San Carlos was an important stronghold in defense of the city of Maracaibo and its lake, since it had already been looted by the pirates of that time, and was attacked by German warships Panther and Vineta during the naval blockade of Venezuela in 1902. The castle of San Carlos is shaped like a star and in 1965 it was declared a national historical monument and is one of the tourist attractions of the region.

There is a ferry and boat route that leads to the island from a small pier located in San Rafael del Mojan.
On the beach you can camp and also has inns, there are food sales, rental of awnings and chairs.
It is a very fun and historic walk to enjoy with family or friends.
