There are many ways to save energy and thus money. During an investigation here in a house by a consultancy firm, it was proposed in order to insulate the cavity wall first and then the floor. With the high gas prices and long queues at insulation companies, I decided to tackle the floor myself.

I chose Tonzon materials. Years ago, I bought the radiator foil of this brand to keep the look of the heaters indoors. So simple, but you just have to come up with it.

Step 1 is to close the bottom in the crawl space with sturdy, orange foil. Keeps you out moisture and radon gas. The air that rises from the crawl space is dry due to the bottom foil, so that the house is less moist. Also, the crawl space should be less stale and damp. This first step is also a prerequisite for being able to insulate the floor at the bottom afterwards.

It was quite a job for me. It is very pleasant not to work in such a low crawl space. Before reaching the large space under the floor, I also had to dig a hole under the foundation. Through Peerby, I was able to borrow a battery-powered rotary hammer to drill in the crawl space. Working with electricity in the crawl space is a chance of being electrocuted, and otherwise part 2 of this blog did not come! I am already satisfied with the result. In any case, it is now a lot less dirty to crawl through the crawl space. And soon dry enough to actually insulate the floor. Stay tuned.
